The Film Science contest begins

01.08.2018., 08:00 - 02.10.2018., 08:00

Audience voting on the second season of the contest Film Science will start August 1, 2018 Visitors to the project’s website will have to choose the winners in three categories: Experiment, Popular Science, and Discovery.

The Film Science is a contest for custom-made video clips, aimed at video bloggers, television journalists, scientists, and students interested in popularizing scientific knowledge. The project was launched by the television channel Nauka (Science) in 2017, with support from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. In the first year of its existence, the competition attracted more than 200 contestants from six countries (Estonia, Latvia, Serbia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan) and 67 regions of Russia.

Submissions for participation in the second season of the contest will be accepted on October 2. Based on the results of audience voting, three winners will be determined in each nomination. One more winner from among scientific journalists and popularizers of science will be selected in each nomination by the jury of the contest.

„In running the Film Science contest, we are pursuing a very specific goal: to find talented content-makers capable of presenting science in a vivid and accessible way,“ Grigory Kovbasyuk, General Director of Nauka, says. „One of the winners of the first season, Alexander Ivanov, is already filming a documentary series for our channel. We will give the same opportunity to one of the winners of the second season.“

In the second season, there will be an English version of the competition, so works sent in English will also be accepted for participation. All videos admitted to voting will be accompanied by subtitles in Russian and English.

The prize fund of the contest will be formed jointly with the general sponsor of the competition, PJSC Tolyattiazot, one of the leading chemical enterprises in Russia.

„Tolyattiazot has been actively participating in the popularization of scientific knowledge for several years. We strive to expand the coverage of educational programs, so we responded eagerly to the invitation from Nauka. We hope that the Film Science contest will encourage participants to pursue new knowledge and will allow them to share this knowledge in a creative, interesting and fascinating way,“ Julia Petrenko, Public Relations Director of CJSC Tolyattiazot Corporation, said.

In addition to the Film Science video contest, there will also be a photo contest in the second season, which will be hosted jointly with the Russian branch of Wikimedia. All the works in the Photos nomination will be available for use for free and will serve as illustrations for Wikipedia articles in 300 languages.

The results of the contest will be summed up on October 14 in the assembly hall of the Moscow State University’s Fundamental Library as part of the closing ceremony of the All-Russian Science Festival NAUKA 0+, which is co-organizing the contest.

The competition is supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. The Film Science contest was awarded the special prize For Loyalty to Science in 2017.
