” We are in the humanitarian blockade; all this has an impact on the position of the country in all the spheres,”- said the doctor from Syria.

Within the framework of the forum “Medicine without borders” the Syrian doctors met up the head of Rossotrudnichestvo and the deputies of the State Duma. On October 14, Yevgeny Primakov met the delegation of the Syrian doctors who came to Russia to participate in the forum “Medicine Without Borders”. The event was organized by Rossotrudnichestvo supported by the Syrian -Russian Business Council and the Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic in Moscow.
This is the third day of the forum which was also attended by Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Pyotr Tolstoy, Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky and Riyad Haddad, Ambassador of the Syrian Arab Republic to Russia.

One of the main topics was coronavirus and the Russian experience in fighting with this disease. “I am sure that such a meeting will be useful for all of us. Unfortunately, apart from all the problems facing the humanity- terrorism, wars, social inequality, and the humanitarian problems- there is another menace common to all of us – a new infection, a new coronavirus pandemic, ”-said Pyotr Tolstoy

Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Petr Tolstoy

He also emphasized that Russia was ready to share its experience and urged all countries to cooperate.

“President Putin announced that a second Russian-made vaccine against coronavirus has been tested. It can be applied and used to protect and save people from different countries of the world,”-accented Tolstoy.

Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs told about the importance to strengthen the contacts in the field of medicine and to supply Syria with the Russian vaccine.

“The contacts which you gain during this meeting will help to fight efficiently against such a threat as COVID-19. In the near future both the first and the second Russian-made vaccines will be delivered to the Syrian Arab Republic.

During this event it was talked about the Russian humanitarian policy which, as Yevgeny Primakov mentioned, was not based on the principle of the interference in the domestic affairs of other countries in order to reform political realities for themselves but on the positions of mutual respect and development.

“Russia has never had a task to educate some leaders so that they can go and change something in their countries to our taste. It is important for Russia that you having gained new knowledge come back and make your country stronger, better, safer, the way we all love Syria.

„The health care system has suffered significant losses due to the terrorist activity and the spread of coronavirus infection, and the fall of the economic level has also had strong influence”, -said the Syrian surgeon Khalil Hussam.

“Since 2011, Syria has been overtaken by war and, of course, there are a lot of victims and people who need medical aid. We are in the humanitarian blockade – all this has an impact on the position of the country in all spheres, including science, culture, and the social sphere. That is why, we are very grateful to Russia for its support and help, “ – said Ophthalmologist Nura Barakat.

On October 15, the delegation will leave for St. Petersburg, where the work of the forum will be continued.
